Leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement have rejected outright Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's proposal for talks.

They said they have no plan to sit for talks with the government.
Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators, of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement, stated it to journalists on Saturday (August 3) afternoon.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she wanted to sit with quota reform protesters.

"Ganabhaban's gates are open. I want to sit with quota reform protesters. I want to listen to them. I don't want conflict."

She made the remarks at a meeting with the central leaders of the Professional Coordination Council.

In reaction to it, Nahid Islam said no scope has been left to seek justice from the killer government or sit with it for talks. "Time for seeking apology has already been exhausted. When there was time, the government arrested students through block raids and inflicted tortures upon them. We will not make any kind of compromise keeping our leaders Akhtar Hossain and Arif Sohel in jail."

Nahid Islam further said, "When we were at the Detective Branch office, they planned to take us to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). But, their plan was not successful owing to our hunger strike and street movement."

Another coordinator Asif Mahmud said, "When we were captive at the DB office, we were asked to suspend our movement meeting with the prime minister. Even, the DB authorities had planned to take us to Ganabhaban forcibly. Then we began hunger strike protesting the proposal and seeking our release."

He also said they are ready to embrace death for uncompromising with the government. "We call for participation of each citizen in this mass upsurge of students and citizens."

In the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also directed law enforcers to release the detained students and said every killing will be prosecuted.

Earlier, three Awami League leaders were assigned to hold discussions with the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The three leaders are -- Awami League Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim.
