Road mishaps claim six lives in three districts

Six people including two women and a minor girl were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Noakhali, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram, in four days.

BEGUMGANJ, NOAKHALI: Three people including a woman and her son were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bus in Begumganj Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 

The accident took place in Dokaghor area under Durgapur Union on the Noakhali-Feni regional highway of the upazila at around 10 am. 

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Jasim Uddin, 55, his mother Tahera Begum, 45, and his cousin's wife Kohinur Begum, 45. All of them were residents of Durgapur Union in the upazila.

Police and local sources said that a Laxmipur-bound bus of 'Star Line Paribahan' collided with the CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in Dokaghor area at around 10 am, which left the trio dead on the spot. 
Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene.

However, the law enforcers also seized the vehicles involved in the accident. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Highway Police Station (PS) Ruhul Amin confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.  
 
LALMONIRHAT: A minor girl was killed in a road accident in Hatibandha Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place in Shimultala area under Patikapara Union of the upazila at night. 

The deceased was identified as Hasiba, 2, daughter of Hafizul Islam, a resident of Gotamari Union in the upazila. 

It was known that Hasiba went to visit her maternal grandparents' house in Parulia Union of the upazila recently. As she fell sick there, her relatives took her to a village doctor at Parulia Bazar. After visiting the doctor, they were returning to the house from there on Friday night riding on a battery-run auto-rickshaw. On the way, the auto-rickshaw overturned after losing its control over the steering in Shimultala area of Patikapara Union, which left Hasiba critically injured. 

Locals then rescued her and took to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body. 

Hatibandha PS OC (Investigation) Nirmal Chandra Mohanta confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

FULBARI, KURIGRAM: Two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Fulbari Upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Samiul Islam, 42, son of Ward No. 4 under Sundarganj Municipality in Gaibandha District, and Julhas, 70, son of late Abdul Alim, a resident of Chandrakhana area in Fulbari Upazila of Kurigram. 

The injured persons are: Shahjahan Ali, 80, of Bhangamor area; and Abed Ali, 50, of Panimachhkuti Village in Fulbari Upazila.
 
It was known that a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying four to five passengers on its board was heading towards Lalmonirhat Town from Fulbari on Tuesday morning. On the way, the auto-rickshaw collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in Achhiar Bazar area on the Fulbari-Lalmonirhat road of the upazila, which left motorcyclist Samiul and auto-rickshaw passengers Julhas, Abed Ali and Shahjahan Ali seriously injured. 

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor shifted Samiul and Julhas to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

At around 3 pm on Tuesday, Julhas succumbed to his injuries there.

Later on, Samiul was again shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital following the deterioration of his condition, where he died at around 8:30 am on Friday while undergoing treatment.

Fulbari PS OC Nawabur Rahman confirmed the incident.
