Non-cooperation movement: 70 killed nationwide, scores injured

A total of 70 people, including 13 policemen, were killed and scores injured in the widespread violence across the country amidst the ongoing non-cooperation movement led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Among them, 22 people, including 13 police officials, were killed in Sirajganj, 6 killed in Narsingdi, 5 in Feni, while Dhaka, Kishoreganj, Bogura, Magura, and Rangpur districts recorded 4 deaths each; 3 died in Munshiganj, 3 in Bhola, 3 in Pabna, 3 in Cumilla, 2 in Sylhet; and one each in Joypurhat, Habiganj and Barishal.
In Feni, at least five people were killed during clashes between supporters of Awami League and its various units, including BCL, Juba League, and protesters in Feni.

The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

At least 40 others were injured in the incident at the Mohipal area on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

The bodies of five deceased are being kept at the Feni General Hospital, Hospital's Resident Medical Officer Dr Asif Iqbal.

In Sirajganj, at least four people were killed and many injured in a series of clashes between protesters, Awami League activists and police in the ongoing 'All-out non-cooperation' called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Moreover, the district saw extensive destruction, vandalism and arson including on police stations and houses of two lawmakers. 

Though the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, the bodies were kept at North Bengal Medical College Hospital morgue.

In Munshiganj, two construction workers were shot dead on their way to work during a three-way clash in Munshiganj. 

At that time, at least 20 others were injured.

In Pabna and Bogura, three students were killed in Pabna and other three in Bogura in clashes involving protesters, AL men and police in the two districts.
The students were Jahidul Islam, 19, Mahbubul Hossain, 16, and Fahim, 17.


In Savar, a dead body was left at the Dhamrai upazila health complex.

Some locals brought a dead body to the hospital at around 1:20pm. As far as we know, he died at least an hour and a half before the body was brought to the hospital, said Ahmedul Huq, a residential doctor at Dhamrai upazila health complex.

In Mirpur ,  one person has been shot to death in Mirpur-10 during clashes.

The deceased, identified as Miraz, was shot in his chest with a shotgun.

He was rushed to Mir Azmal Ali Hospital where the doctors declared him dead,

In Magura, Chhatra Dal leader Mehedi Hasan Rabbi was shot to death  during clashes with police and Awami League men.

In Cumilla, a person named Md Rubel was killed in a clash between protesters and ruling Awami League men at Debidar upazila.

In Rangpur, two people were killed in three-way clashes.

In Barishal, a local Awami League leader hacked and beaten to death reportedly during the clash with students in the city.

Meanwhile, protesters set fire on two buses in Gazipur's Sreepur.
