CHATTOGRAM, Aug 6:  Chattogram Port on Tuesday resumed operation after 18 days.

After resignation of  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, normalcy returned in government  offices and industries. At least 66 ships are at the port, 16 at jetties and  50 at the Outer Anchorage, said Muhammad Omar Faruk, Secretary of CPA.

"Loading, unloading from ships and delivery of cargo and containers from the port's sheds are  progressing smoothly,' he said.

Operation  of CPA was disrupted since July 18, t due to countrywide anti-quota movement of  students.

Bangladesh Railway suspended movement of l trains since July 18. The trains of Bangladesh railway were scheduled to carry containers to Kamalapur ICD from Chattogram Port. Since suspension of train movement  Chattogram Port is facing congestion of containers bound for Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD).

CPA sources said, the Port has been facing  congestion of containers as there was complete shut down in recent days.

As a result, a large numbers of container ships remained idle at Outer Anchorage of the Port, sources said.

On an average three container ships arrived at Chattogram port daily in recent days.

Containers loaded with import and export cargo  stockpiled at Chattogram Port and off the dock due to interruption of internet service across the country.

Traffic movement on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway remained suspended.

Most of of Bangladesh's imports and exports are handled by Chattogram Port.
