581 families take refuge in Dighinala shelter centres

DIGHINALA, KHAGRACHHARI, Aug 6: A total of 581 families of flood affected low areas in Dighinala Upazila of the district have taken shelter to shelter centres.

Heavy rain and hilly tide deluged low areas in the upazila. 

The communication has been disrupted on Merung-Longdu Road.

Flood water entered low areas in Chhobahanpur, Chittagongpara, No. 1 colony, and No. 3 colony of Merung Union.

Due to submergence of Dighinala Sajek Road, the communication has been disrupted between Sajek and Dighinala. 

At Merung Union, 296 families took shelter in seven shelter centres, 270 ones took shelter in seven centres at Kobakhali Union and 115 families took shelters at Boalkhali Union. 

Besides, 1,500 families are living in marooned condition. Hill slope collapses are likely in these unions.

People of risky areas are asked through mike for going to safe places.

A total of 21 shelter centres have been opened in Merung, Boalkhali, and Babuchhara unions; the upazila administration has also opened emergency service centre.

Merung Union Chairman Mahmuda Begum Laki said, water-confined people are asked through mike to go to shelter centres.

Kobakhali Union Chairman Gayne Chakma said, 270 families have taken shelters in seven shelter centres at the union.

Families in shelter centres are fed dry food and hotchpotch, he added. 

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Mamunur Rashid said, Dighinala Upazila administration is prepared to face any natural disaster.
