A boat carrying Rohingya refugees fleeing from Myanmar's Rakhine State to Bangladesh has capsized on Tuesday.
Following the incident, at least 31 bodies, 13 women and 15 children, have been recovered from the shores of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar over the past two days.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Adnan Chowdhury confirmed the reports.
Citing locals, it was known that they all were heading to Teknaf to take shelter after fleeing from ongoing conflict between Arakan Army and armed forces in Rakhine state.
On Wednesday, bodies of 2 children and 3 women were recovered from the Naf River jetty area on Shah Porir Island. Additionally, the bodies of 2 women and 2 children were found on the Southpara beach, and 1 woman and 2 children were recovered from the Westpara beach on the same island.
Earlier, on Tuesday, locals had recovered 12 bodies of Rohingyas.
Abdur Rashid, a member of ward No. 1 in Teknaf Sadar Union Parishad, said that the boat carrying the fleeing Rohingyas might have faced a storm and sank. The bodies then washed ashore. The 12 bodies recovered on the first day were taken by their relatives from the Rohingya camps for burial.
