Rajshahi University (RU) Vice Chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar resigned from his post on Thursday, citing personal reasons.
VC Office Secretary Mir Shahjahan Ali Zakir, confirming the matter to the Daily Observer, said Prof Golam Sabbir resigned at around 3:00pm.
Earlier at noon, RU unit of Anti-discrimination Student Movement gave ultimatum to VC, Pro-VCs and heads of administrative offices of the university to resign within 24 hours.
Asked about the reason behind such decision, Prof Golam Sabbir said, "I have submitted the resignation letter to Chancellor at 3:00pm, showing personal cause."
It is learnt that RU Proctor Prof Asabul Haque, Student Advisor Prof Jahangir Alam Saud, Public Relations Officer Pranab Jumar, English and Other Language Institute Director Prof Abdullah Al Mamun, Legal Cell Administrator Sakhawat Hossain and Central Cafeteria Administrator Prof Mahfuzur Rahman also resigned from their respective posts.
An RU administrator, seeking anonymity, told this correspondent that all except the Proctor and the Student Advisor submitted resignation letters on Thursday.
The Proctor and the Student Advisor resigned on August 6, said the source.
