BOGURA, Aug 8: A local Juba League leader was allegedly beaten to death and another was injured in Dhunot, Bogura over internal party conflicts.
The deceased Al Amin was the joint convener of the proposed committee of the Dhunot Municipal Juba League. The injured was Abu Hanif, 24, from the same village. Al Amin died while undergoing treatment at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) Hospital on Thursday morning. Quoting eyewitnesses and family members, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhunot Police Station Saikat Hasan said on Wednesday evening, Al Amin left home and was heading towards Dhunot Bazar on a motorcycle with his neighbour Hanif.
When they reached the Bara Bridge, miscreants equipped with local weapons obstructed them and beat them up indiscriminately. Locals rescued the injured and taken to Dhunot Upazila Health Complex. Later Al Amin shifted to Bogura SZMC hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.
OC Saikat Hasan said they are investigating the matter. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, Dhunot Upazila Juba League President Sheikh Matiur Rahman confirmed Al Amin's political affiliation.
