SIRAJGANJ, Aug 10: An inmate of Sirajganj District Jail reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself on Friday noon.
The deceased was identified as Pappu, 32, hailed from Dhanbandhi Moholla under Sirajganj Municipality.
It was known that Pappu was in the jail from May 29 last year in a drug case.
Superintend of Sirajganj District Jail Al Nur Md Reza said that Pappu hanged himself inside the toilet of the jail at around 12 pm on Friday. Sensing the matter, the jail guards rescued him and immediately took to Sirajganj Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the inmate dead.
Later on, his body was recovered and handed it over to the deceased's family members after an autopsy following the legal procedures, the jail superintend added.
However, the reason behind his committing suicide could not be known immediately.
