Foreign Adviser briefs envoys, mission heads today

Interim government's Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain will brief the diplomats, head of missions and development partners today (Monday) on the current issues.

This will be the maiden briefing of the Foreign Adviser after the formation of the interim government led by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

"We have sent the invitation letters to the 70 High Commissions, Embassies and UN mission heads to join the meeting with the adviser," a senior official of the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

The briefing will be held at the state guest house Padma at 11:00am.

"From Saturday we are preparing the briefing papers ... still we are working on it to satisfy the diplomats' queries over the issues of  "Interim Government," a senior official of the Foreign Ministry said. According to the official, they mainly focus on the issue of the urgency of formation of an interim government, the government measures to ensure peace and stability amid the demonstrations, law and order situation, minority issues, all current affair issues will be discussed.

Over the last one month, the Foreign Ministry has sat three times with the diplomats and sent a verbal note to the foreign missions in Dhaka, describing the current situation last August 3 when the students were demonstrating for reforming the quota system in government jobs.

Later the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent notes to foreign diplomats asking them not to send statements to the media regarding the recent unrest in the country.
