Members of the Hindu community on Sunday partially blocked the capital's Shahbagh Intersection for the third consecutive day in protest against attacks on their homes, shops and places of worship across the country after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government. The protesters gathered at the Shahbagh Intersection at around 3:00pm, later in a procession they marched to the Central Shahid Minar at 5:15pm.

They demanded safety of religious minorities in the country.

Their demands include formation of a minority affairs ministry, a minority protection commission, enactment and enforcement of  laws to prevent attacks on minorities and reservation of 10 per cent seat in parliament for minorities.

Meanwhile, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Amir Muhibbullah Babunagari and Secretary General Sajidur Rahman in a statement on Sunday blamed India for fueling fears among Hindus in Bangladesh.

"India and fascist Sheikh Hasina have always been the beneficiaries of minority oppression in Bangladesh. Since Hasina fled to India in the face of mass uprising, some anti-Muslim media and politicians in India have launched an anti-Bangladesh campaign, spreading rumours that minorities are being attacked in Bangladesh," said the statement, adding, "As an effect of that, fears  spread among the minorities in the country. We think India's fuel is behind all this."

The statement said, "By sheltering fugitive Sheikh Hasina, India has once again proved that it helped a dictator like Hasina stay in power for a decade and a half against the will of the people of Bangladesh."

"We the people are ensuring the safety of the minorities of our country. In this regard, we strongly condemn Indian efforts to destabilise Bangladesh," it added.

Hefazat-e-Islam called called upon India to change its 'discriminatory state policies and practices towards the minority Muslim community.'
