GAIBANDHA, Aug 13: Police of district traffic division under SP-led district police have returned to their jobs and started their professional duties on Monday morning after seven days of work abstention.
According to field sources, on August 5, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, miscreants attacked police stations and outposts and set them on fire; in some cases, the miscreants also attacked the police men; in this situation, the traffic police and police stations refrained from their professional duties in fear of attacks.
Police also made demonstrations demanding the reformation of the police department.
As the police were in movement, the students who are involved in rover scouts and BNCC of different academic institutions performed their traffic duties on the roads on voluntary basis.
Many of the youths were also seen performing the duties in road intersections, taking sticks in their hands.
As the traffic police were not seen on duty on the roads since the step down of the AL-led government, Brigadier General (Rtd) Sakhawat Hossain, one of the advisers to the interim government led by Professor Dr Yunus, gave the ultimatum to the police to join at their respective working places within August 15.
Responding to his call, police started their professional works in the district.
This correspondent found performing the traffic duties by the traffic police when he visited a number of intersections of the town in the morning.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Kamal Hossain confirmed the joining of police in their professional work in Gaibandha.
