KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR, Aug 14:  Four railway stations in the middle of Kulaura-Shamshernagar upazilas of the district have been lying suspended for a long time.

Three of these stations have been closed for more than one era. The remaining one has been closed for 18 months.

Locals are taking railway services from distant stations. So they are suffering  for lack of railway communications.

Longla Station was closed about 18 months back due to lack of master. The master of the station was transferred to Moglabazar Station in Sylhet.

Due to lack of masters, signal lamps, infrastructure, and lines, other three stations- Bhatera, Tilagaon and Manu, were closed; only mail trains stop in these stations, but only for one minute.

A recent visit found Longla, Bhatera, Tilagaon and Manu stations of Sylhet-Akhaura Railway Section standing like ghostly homes; these have turned bushy because of jungles.

The stations were built during British time. Already many have grabbed lands of these stations.
Locals said, as the stations are no longer running, they make their distant communications through buses.

A dweller of Tilagaon Railway Station Noab Ullah said, "We saw trains' stoppage at this station 15 years back; now no train stops here."

A resident of Manu Station area Farid Uddin said, no train makes stoppage at this station;   it is a station in name only; and it has only one line having no signal lamp."

Due to the closure of this station, the crossing system has also been stopped. On the one-way line, having intercity train is an imagination only.

Earlier, when the station was running, trains from Shamshernagar and Kulaura would cross in the middle station.

But now as the station is off, the trains will have to cross by stationing either at Shamshernagar or Kulaura station.

Former master of Longla Station Rajat Ray said, "I was transferred from this station to Moglabazar Station in Sylhet about 18 months back; since then, the station service has been closed."

Kulaura Railway Station Master Ruman Ahmed said, "I heard that several stations have been lying suspended due to mater crisis; Shamshernagar-Kulaura Line has been made one-way. Besides, there are problems of signal lights and lines in some stations."
