Four drown in three districts

Four people including three minor children drowned in separate incidents in three districts - Chandpur, Lalmonirhat and Pabna, in two days.

CHANDPUR: A minor boy drowned in a pond in Hajiganj Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdullah, 5, son of Alam Sarder, a resident of Mohammadpur Village under Gandharbyapur Union in the upazila.
According to the deceased's family members, Abdullah along with other children was playing on the bank of a pond next to the house. At one stage of playing, he fell in the pond while his family members were unaware of it.

Later on, the family members started searching for him and found his body floating in the pond. They then rescued Abdullah and rushed him to Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared the child dead.

Residential Medical Officer of the health complex Dr Md Golam Mawla Naim confirmed the incident, adding that the child had died before being taken to the hospital.

LALMONIRHAT: A man drowned in a ditch in Patgram Upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place in Ward No. 2 Madhya Islampur Village under Sreerampur Union of the upazila at around 4:50 pm.

The deceased was identified as Umar Faruq, 30, son of late Afaz Uddin, a resident of Shoulmari Village under Sreerampur Union. He was a labourer by profession.

Local sources said that a group of influential people used to lift sand and stone illegally from the Dharla River in various areas of Sreerampur Union through dredger for long. Due to this, there are many ditches created in various areas. On Monday noon, Umar Faruq accidentally fell in a ditch in Ward No. 2 Madhya Islampur Village while working beside it, and drowned there. Locals searched him for long and informed the Fire Service not being able to locate Umar Faruq.

On information, a joint team from Patgram and Rangpur Fire Service Stations rushed in and recovered his body from the ditch at around 4:50 pm, said In-Charge of Patgram Fire Service Mafidar Rahman.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station (PS) Abu Sayeed Chowdhury confirmed the incident.
     
SANTHIA, PABNA: Two minor children of a family drowned in a ditch in Santhia Upazila of the district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Ruhan, 3, son of Imran Hossain, and Yeamin, 4, son of Shahin Alam. Both of them were residents of Dhulauri Purbapara Village in the upazila. 

According to the deceased's family members, the two boys along with Ruhan's mother Ratna Khatun went to wash clothes in the Ichamati River near their house at around 11 am. 

Unbeknownst to her, the duo wandered off to a nearby ditch to pick water lilies and slipped into the water body.

Later on, the family members rescued them from the ditch and took to Santhia Upazila Health Complex, where the minors were declared dead by the on-duty doctor.

Santhia PS OC Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that no case has been filed yet in this regard.
