Tk 3.12cr seized from ex-senior secretary's residence in Mohammadpur

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive recovered a huge amount of money, including a substantial amount of local and foreign currencies worth around Tk 3.11 crore, from two house of a former senior secretary on Babar Road in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Friday.

The properties belong to Dr. Shah Kamal, a former Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. He served the ministry from 2015 to 2019 as secretary and from 2019 to 2020 as senior secretary.
The DMP confirmed the matter through a notification in the evening.

Based on a tip off, the DMP conducted a raid and recovered the money from house no. 29/2 and 29/3, Block F, Babar Road in Mohammadpur, according to the message.

According to DMP sources, a total of Tk 31,10,166 was seized in domestic currency. Additionally, foreign currency equivalent to Tk 10,03,306 was found, including 3,000 US dollars, 1,320 Malaysian ringgit, 2,969 Saudi riyals, 4,122 Singapore dollars, 1,915 Australian dollars, 35,000 Korean won, and 199 Chinese yuan.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Shah Kamal retired in 2019. During his tenure as Secretary, he faced multiple allegations of corruption, including illicit financial gains through transfers, purchases, and other sources.
