Road mishaps claim three lives in two districts

Three people including a woman and her minor son have been killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in two districts - Cumilla and Natore, in two days. 
 
CUMILLA: A mother and her son were killed while the father was injured after being hit by a covered van on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sadar Dakshin Upazila of the district on Thursday noon.

The deceased were identified as Mariam Akter, 20, wife of Yasin Mia, a resident of Chauddagram Upazila of the district, and her one-year-four-month old son Alvi.

Police and local sources said that the accident occurred in the area when they were going to Bhagalpur in Sadar Dakshin Upazila from Chauddagram Upazila of the district at noon riding a motorcycle. 

On the way, a covered van hit their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at around 1:30 pm, which left two of them dead on the spot and another injured.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene and sent those to the deceased's family members without autopsies as per their request.
 
The injured person was rescued and taken to Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila Health Complex, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Mainamati Crossing Highway Police Station Iqbal Bahar Majumdar confirmed the incident.

BARAIGRAM, NATORE: An imam of a local mosque was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Baraigram Upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The accident took place in Golakata Bridge area on the Natore-Pabna highway under the upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Lulu Munshi, 60, son of late Aslam Hossain, a resident of Khord Kachhutia Village in the upazila. He was the imam of a local mosque in the area. 

Quoting locals, Joari Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Ali Akbar said that Lulu Munshi was returning home after drinking tea at a tea stall in Golakata G area of the upazila in the morning riding on a bicycle. On the way, a Natore-bound speedy motorcycle from Bonpara hit his bicycle in Golakata Bridge area, which left him seriously injured. 

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed him to Natore Sadar Hospital. 

Later on, Lulu Munshi succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at night while undergoing treatment, the UP chairman added.
