A case was filed against two former police officials including a former officer-in-charge (OC) for extorting money from a former official of Grameen Bank in Saltha Upazila of Faridpur on Thursday.

The accused are: former OC Md Sheikh Sadik and former sub-inspector (SI) Tanmoy Chakraborty, both were posted at Saltha Police Station.
Md Hafizur Rahman, a resident of Bhawal Village under the upazila and a former deputy general manager (DGM) of the bank, filed the case with the Faridpur Senior Judicial Magistrate, according to the plaintiff's lawyer Md Mamun-Or-Rashid.

The court took the allegations into cognisance and ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation to submit a report, though it did not set a specific time frame.

According to the case statement, the victim was involved in local BNP politics. The former police officers allegedly collaborated to demand Tk 20 lakh from him as extortion.

Finding no alternative, the former banker paid Tk 5 lakh, but they continued to pressure him for the remaining amount. When he refused to pay, the officers allegedly filed a case against him under the Explosives Act.

OC Sadik denied the allegations, claiming they are baseless, false, and intended to harass him. SI Tanmoy Chakraborty echoed these sentiments, expressing hope for justice in court.
