A young man was beaten to death overnight on suspicion of cattle theft in Cox’s Bazar.

His body was discovered at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital on Saturday morning.
The deceased Sazzad Hossain Suniya, 21, was son of Mohammad Alam Madhyam Kolatoli area of Cox’s Bazar Municipality.

According to Sazzad’s wife Shahnaz Parveen, the incident began around 2 PM on Friday when Noor Ahmed, a resident of the Soikat Para area, along with his family members allegedly abducted Sazzad. He was taken to their residence, where he was subjected to horrific torture throughout the night on accusation of stealing a cow.

Later that night, Sazzad's relatives were contacted and informed that they would need to pay Tk 100,000 for his release. However, around 5 AM on Saturday, the family received an anonymous call from Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, informing them that Sazzad’s body had been placed in morgue.

Sazzad’s mother, Sahera Khatun, stated that her son was innocent, yet he was forcibly taken by Noor Ahmed and his family members. When the family tried to intervene, they were verbally abused and accused of cattle theft.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Rakibuzzaman confirmed that they had received information about the killing.

The police have prepared a preliminary report, and the body has been sent for an autopsy. Legal action will be taken once a complaint is filed, added the OC.
