Abdul Momen new secretary to home ministry

Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen has been appointed secretary of the Public Safety Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs removing senior secretary Mokabbir Hossain three days after his appointment.

The previous Awami League government sent Dr Momen on forced retirement when he was holding the post of additional secretary. The interim government has appointed five retired additional secretaries to the post of secretary for the next two years on contractual basis.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding their appointments on Saturday (August 17).

The notification, signed by Abdullah Arif Mohammad, deputy secretary of the Contract and Foreign Recruitment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, stated, "Under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018, five retired officers have been appointed on a contractual basis to the positions, terms, and ministries/departments mentioned beside their names, with the condition of relinquishing their association with other institutions and organizations."

The notofication also stated that four rtetired additional secretaries have been appointed secretaries by the government. They are Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Additional Secretary; Md Ehsanul Haque, Additional Secretary; Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, Additional Secretary; Dr Nasimul Gani, Additional Secretary; and MA Akmal Hossain Azad, Additional Secretary.

Among them, Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid has been appointed to the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Md Ehsanul Huque to the Road Transport and Highways Division, Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen to the Public Security Division, Dr. Nasimul Gani to the Public Division of the President's Office, and MA Akmal Hossain Azad to the Ministry of Railways.

The notification further stated, "The proposed tenure of the contractual appointment will be for two years from the date of joining. Other conditions of this appointment will be determined by the approved contract. This order will be effective immediately in the public interest."

Meanwhile, Md Mokabbir Hossain was transferred to the Ministry of Science and Technology as senior secretary three days after he was appointed as the senior secretary to the Public Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

On August 14, Md Mokabbir Hossain, chairman (senior secretary) of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council, was appointed as the senior secretary to the Public Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. On that day, Public Security Division's secretary Md Jahangir Alam was sent on forced retirement.
