Bangladeshi footballers on Tuesday paid a heartfelt tribute to Mir Mugdha, Abu Sayeed and other martyrs, who were killed during the quota reform movement, with a goal in their opening match of ongoing SAFF U-20 Championship against Sri Lanka ANFA Complex in Lalitpur in Nepal.
In 16th minute of the match, Bangladeshi footballers took a moment to pay their respects. Bangladesh's number 10, Mirajul Islam, celebrated his goal in the first half by donning a T-shirt bearing the names of Mugdha and Sayeed.
Miraj gave Bangladesh the lead in 16th minute of the match. Following his goal, he was handed a T-shirt from the bench, which he wore over his jersey during the celebration.
The T-shirt displayed the words, "In memory of Mughdho and Abu Sayeed / Remember the fight and the bloodshed for our country."

Although international football regulations often penalise such personal messages with a yellow card, Mirajul took the risk to honor the two young men. The referee did issue a yellow card, but Mirajul's tribute remained a powerful symbol of solidarity and remembrance.
However, this unique celebration may lead to disciplinary action. International football regulations prohibit the display of non-sporting messages, particularly those of a political nature. Miraj’s gesture could potentially fall under these restrictions, depending on the match commissioner’s report.
The final decision will be based on the match commissioner’s report, which may lead to penalties such as fines, suspensions, or warnings for the player or the associated federation.
