Dr Md Rahmat Ullah, the dean of Dhaka University's Faculty of Law, resigned from his position in response to student demands on Thursday.
He submitted his resignation letter to the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University on Thursday
afternoon.
In his resignation letter, Dr Rahmat mentioned that he was resigning to protect his honour, personal and family security, and to ensure the continuation of academic activities within the faculty and department.
Student protests demanding Dr Rahmat's resignation had been ongoing for several days, accompanied by criticism on social media.
In his letter, Dr Rahmat Ullah addressed allegations made by students on August 17. These allegations included his failure to clarify his position during various campus incidents, his participation in a Neel Dal meeting, and his alleged silence regarding an attack on students during the “Productive Ramadan” program at Bangabandhu Tower last Ramadan.
Earlier, the students had given Dr Rahmat a 24-hour ultimatum to resign from his posts.
