Tigers' openers steady against Pakistan's massive total

Bangladesh ended Day-2 of the first Test in the two-match series against Pakistan trailing by 421 runs in the first innings as they posted 27 for none at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan on Thursday.

Sadman Islam and Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten on 12 and 11 runs respectively.

Earlier in the morning, Pakistan resumed from 158 runs for four wickets. Overnight's batters Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan both picked up centuries resuming from 57 and 24 runs respectively.

Bangladesh could not take any wickets till the lunch break but Pakistan added 98 runs after batting in 29 overs before the break. They continued batting over one hour in the post-lunch session till Mehdi Hasan Miraz breaking the 240-run partnership.

 Shakil stopped with 141 runs off 261 balls as Pakistan's first innings amassed 367 for five in 98 overs before the tea break.
After the tea break, Shakib Al Hasan got his first wicket in his 25th over. Agha Salman returned with 19 runs off 36 balls, when Pakistan were on 398 runs for six wickets.

Pakistan however, announced the first innings at 448 for six wickets. Rizwan was 29 runs away from a double century as he remained unbeaten on 171 off 239 balls. He batted for 11 fours hitting three sixes. Shaheen Shah Afridi was unbeaten on 29 off 24 balls.

On Day-1, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first inviting Pakistan to bat. The pacers of Bangladesh got off to a great start by taking advantage of the pitch. They took three wickets allowing 16 runs only. Abdullah Shafiq scored two runs, Shaan Masood six, Babar Azam naught and Saim Ayub hoarded 56 runs Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam claimed two wickets each for Bangladesh, with Shakib and Miraz sharing the rest equally.
