SIRAJGANJ, Aug 23: Re-opening of two damaged railway stations- Sadar Upazila Railway Station and Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station, is still uncertain, causing communication troubles to thousands of rail passengers.

On August 4, vandalising and arson were conducted in these railway stations along with damaging of different government-private installations in the district.

Later on, rail communications were restored in all stations across the country. But  Sirajganj Sadar Upazila Railway Station and Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station were not opened.

According to sources at these stations, their opening has been uncertain due to policy-level problem.

Since the incidence day, Sirajganj Express Train between Sirajganj and Dhaka has been closed.

Locals demanded immediate opening of these stations and re-starting Sirajganj Express Train.

The day before fall of the government on August 4, protesters vandalised ticket counter of the Sadar station, burnt computer, table, chair, fan and furniture; they also changed Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station at Kodda as Sodanandapur Railway Station and hanged a signboard of the new name.

Two other rail stations- Jamtoil Railway Station in Kamarkand Upazila and Ullapara Railwai Station, were attacked during that movement. Their belongings were vandalised. But the Railway Department kept them activated.

Unique Coordinator of Sirajganj Swartha Rokkha Sangram Parishad Naba Kumar Karmakar said, these two stations were used by thousands of passengers every day.

In consideration of their disadvantage, he demanded rapid repairing of these stations and opening of Sirajganj Express Train.
Western Railway Divisional Traffic Officer of Bangladesh Railway Anwar Hossain said, due to damages of tools and all furniture, these two stations have been suspended since the day of the incident; that is why Sirajganj Express Train has been closed; and train stoppage at the Shaheed M Mansur Ali railway station has been suspended.

He could not say when these stations will be re-opened.

Sub-Assistant Engineer of Sirajganj Railway Ahsanur Rahman said, the stations suffered huge damages; many lootings were recorded; authorities concerned were informed of these damages.

It will take some time for repairing these stations, he added.

He further said, after re-starting activities of the GRP station, cases will be filed in this connection.
