PATUAKHALI, Aug 23: A week-long tree fair and tree plantation campaign began in the district town on Thursday with a call for 'Briksha Diye Sajai Desh, Samriddha Kori Bangladesh'.
In this connection, a colourful rally was brought out from the Circuit House premises in the morning, and it ended on the Central Shaheed Minar premises after parading the main streets of the town.
Then, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Nur Qutubul Alam inaugurated the tree fair on the Central Shaheed Minar premises by cutting ribbon and releasing festoon as the chief guest.
Divisional Forest Officer Md Shafiqul Islam presided over the inaugural function.
Additional Superintend of Police Ahmed Mainul Hasan, District Agriculture Officer Mohammad Nazrul Islam and Additional DC Yadav Sarker, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
