A couple in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila has died after being severely burned in a gas explosion caused by a gas leakage.

The husband, Habibur Rahman, passed away on Sunday evening while receiving treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. His wife, Laila Begum, succumbed to her injuries the following morning. Their son, Rifat Hossain, remains in critical condition, according to family members.
Laila Begum's brother, Mir Bached Mia, confirmed the deaths.

The tragic incident occurred on the morning of August 22 in Bari Chinish village under Mograpara Union. The explosion happened when Laila Begum attempted to light the gas stove, which had unknowingly been leaking gas into their home overnight. Upon igniting the stove, the accumulated gas in the air caught fire, engulfing the entire room and severely burning Laila Begum, her husband, and their son.

Neighbors rushed to their screams, extinguished the flames, and took the injured to the hospital.

Sonargaon Police Station inspector (Investigation) Md. Mohsin said that they had received news of the couple's death due to the gas explosion, but no formal complaint has been filed regarding the incident.
