Enforced Disappearance

5-member commission formed headed by Justice Moyeenul

The government has formed a five-member Commission to find out the victims of enforced disappearance by the law enforcement agencies during the 15 years of rule of Awami League -- from January 1, 2010 to August 5, 2024.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification forming the Commission as per the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1956.
   
High Court Division's retired judge,  Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury has been made president of the Commission.

Retired judge of the High Court Division Justice Md Farid Ahmed Shibli, human rights activist Noor Khan, BRAC University teacher Nabila Idris and human rights activist Sazzad Hossain have been made members of the Commission.

The Commission has been formed to investigate and find out the people who were subjected to enforced disappearances by any members of law enforcing agencies, such as, Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh, Criminal Investigation Department of Police, Special Branch, Detective Branch, Ansar Battalion, National Security Intelligence, Defence Force, Directorate General of Defence Intelligence (DGFI) and Coast Guard.

The Commission has been given 45 working days to submit its investigation report to the interim government after completing investigation as per the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1956.
