New website to provide clarity for BD garment industry

A new website is to be launched to provide clarity for the garment industry in Bangladesh which has seen a spate of events - repeated unrest due to wage disputes and the most recent government overthrow - leaving many buyers wondering if production will be able to continue, what the latest developments mean for the country long-term and if they threaten the global apparel supply chain.

The new project, named "Bangladesh: Beyond the Label," appears to have been the idea of Mostafiz Uddin, who also serves as the CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange, Denim Expert Limited, and the organiser of the Bangladesh Denim Expo, reports Apparel Resources.

Uddin had sent an open letter to the fashion sector earlier in the month urging them to continue supporting the nation while a new governmental administration is being formed.

"I am thrilled to announce the launch of a new website, Bangladesh: Beyond The Label, which is dedicated to bringing the real story of the Bangladesh garment industry," announced Uddin on LinkedIn.

The industry leader says that "this new platform will provide honest, fact-checked insights into one of the most significant fashion hubs in the world."

"Bangladesh: Beyond The Label will offer a transparent view that goes beyond the headlines, covering everything from the innovations propelling the industry forward to the challenges faced by workers," he says.

The website describes itself as a 'go-to resource for understanding the true impact of Bangladesh's garment sector on the global stage' and is intended for fashion professionals, sustainability campaigners, and individuals who are just interested in learning where their clothes originate from.

Apart from serving as a repository of knowledge, the website aims to offer a forum for "industry thought leaders and key stakeholders" to exchange perspectives and ideas regarding Bangladesh's apparel sector.
