Road mishaps claim four lives in three districts

Four people have been killed and at least seven others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Gaibandha, Satkhira and Tangail, in three days. 

GAIBANDHA: Two persons were killed in a road accident in Palashbari Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place in Majhipara area on the Gaibandha-Palashbari road of the upazila at around 10:30 am.

One of the deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam, 40, hailed from Tinmile area under Sadar Upazila in the district, while the identity of another, aged about 45, could not be known immediately. 

Local sources said that a passenger-laden bus belonging to 'Jannat Paribahan' was coming to Gaibandha from Chattogram in the morning. On the way, when the bus reached Majhipra area at reckless speed, it lost control over its steering and rammed an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. At that time, two passengers of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot.

Being informed, police rushed to the scene and have recovered the bodies.

SATKHIRA: A man was killed and seven others were injured after being hit by a passenger-laden bus in Sadar Upazila of the district at dawn on Wednesday.

The accident took place on the Satkhira-Khulna highway in front of Satkhira Power Grid Sub-Station at around 5:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar Mandal, 45, son of late Upendranath Mandal, a resident of Binerpota Dakshinpara Village under Sadar Upazila in the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station (PS) Mohammad Rafiqul Islam said that the accident occurred when a passenger-laden bus hit a locally-made engine-run vehicle (nosimon) in highway in front of the Power Grid Sub-Station on the Satkhira-Khulna highway at around 5:30 am, which left Sunil Kumar dead on the spot and seven other passengers of the nosimon critically injured.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene. 

The injured persons were rescued by locals and taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.

KALIHATI, TANGAIL: A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck in Kalihati Upazila of the district on Monday morning. 

The accident took place in Jokarchar area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway under the upazila at around 8:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Sajedul Islam, 45, son of Atatullah Fakir, hailed from Shahapur area under Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna District.

Police and local sources said that Sajedul was going to Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna from Gazipur in the morning riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a bus hit his motorcycle in Jokarchar area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway under Kalihati Upazila of Tangail at around 8:30 am, which left the motorbike fallen on the highway. At that time, a truck ran over the motorcycle from behind, leaving Sajedul dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceased's family members after completing legal procedure.

Sub-Inspector of Kalihati Highway East PS Nazmul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
