Man killed over land dispute in Kurigram

A man was killed after being attacked allegedly by his opponents in Kurigram's Nageshwari upazila on Thursday.

The incident took place at Mahsiner Char village under the upazila.
The dead was Barkat Ullah, 45, a resident of Parerbhita village of the upazila.

According to police, a dispute between Barkat Ullah and his cousin Matiur Rahman over a cropland has been going on for quite some time. Matiur Rahman, son of Abul Kashem, is a resident of Krishnapur Kaladanga village. On Thursday morning, Barkat Ullah went to apply fertilizer on that land and Matiur Rahman attacked him with his men. Barkat was seriously injured.

Later, he was rescued from the scene with serious injuries and sent to Kurigram District Hospital for treatment. When the condition worsened, he was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where died that evening while undergoing treatment.

In the incident, Boyez Uddin, elder brother of the victim, filed a murder case with Kachakata police station on Friday morning accusing 29 people including Matiur.

Kachakata police station officer-in-charge (OC) Bishwadeb Roy said Matiur Rahman has been arrested. Attempts to arrest the rest are ongoing, he added.
