Three minor children drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Sunamganj and Chandpur, in two days.
DERAI, SUNAMGANJ: Two minor children drowned in separate incidents in Derai Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incidents took place in Rajanagar and Jagdal unions of the upazila from 1 pm to 1:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Amirul Islam, 1, son of Anwar Mia, a resident of Kaima Village under Rajanagar Union, and Afsan Mia, 3, son of Fuzayel Ahmed, a resident of Jagdal Village under Jagdal Union in the upazila.
It was known that Amirul Islam fell in a pond next to the house at noon while his family members were unaware of it.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and took to Derai Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the boy dead.
Meanwhile, Afsan Mia also fell in a pond near his house at the same noon while he was playing beside it.
Later on, the family members rescued him and rushed to Derai Upazila Health Complex, where the child was declared dead by the on-duty doctor.
Sub-Inspector of Derai Police Station Mahbub Siddiquee confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies of the minors were handed over to their families.
HAZIGANJ, CHANDPUR: A minor child drowned in a pond in Haziganj Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Gourassor Village under Hartila West Union of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Mahadi Hasan, 2, son of Md Shariful Islam, a resident of the same area.
It was known that the child was playing along with other children on his house yard in the morning. Suddenly, the family members noticed his absence and began searching for him. Later on, they found Mahadi floating in the pond.
They then rescued him and took to Haziganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Golam Mowla Noyam confirmed the incident, adding that the child had died before being brought to the hospital.
