Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made a historic partnership for the seventh wicket to stage a must-needed remarkable recovery for Bangladesh, rescuing the team from a dire position on the third day of second Test in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
Despite trailing Pakistan by 66 runs with just two wickets remaining, their performance marked a significant recovery.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh was reeling at 26 for 6 after a fierce spell by Khurram Shahzad and Mir Hamza. However, Litton and Mehidy’s 165-run partnership for the seventh wicket helped the visitors avoid the follow-on, reaching 208 for 8 by tea.
Mehidy was eventually dismissed by Shahzad, who claimed his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Resuming at 75 for 6 after lunch and still 199 runs behind, Litton led an aggressive counterattack, particularly targeting Shahzad. The pair added 40 runs in the first six overs after lunch, with both reaching their fifties and keeping Bangladesh in the fight.
