The protesting doctors have announced that they would partially withdraw their shutdown programme for 24 hours unless each serving physician gets a law enforcement personnel for ensuring workplace security.
They would resume their duties only at the emergency departments as soon as each doctor is provided with a security personnel, Abdul Ahad, resident surgeon of the Department of Neurosurgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), told reporters on Sunday evening.
He said that outdoor services would remain suspended for seven days, until all the four demands are met. The ICU and HDU sections would continue operating uninterrupted, he added.
He said if the persons, who attacked the doctors, are not arrested and tried in public within the next 24 hours, then the shutdown will resume from 8pm on Monday.
Earlier, on Sunday afternoon, health adviser Nurjahan Begum assured the protesting doctors of arresting the accused within 24 hours, after the adviser held a meeting with the protesters.
Complying with the protesting doctors' demands, two platoons of BGB were also deployed at DMC, but the physicians later demanded the deployment of more security personnel.
Earlier, doctors at all hospitals across the country announced a complete shutdown for an indefinite period, protesting attack on physicians and vandalism carried out by relatives of a patient at the emergency department of DMCH.
Meanwhile, during a press conference at the Secretariat earlier, health adviser announced two separate probe bodies have been formed to look into the attack on doctors, the incident of vandalism, and the allegation of negligence in treatment.
Earlier, in the day, a case has been filed with Shahbagh Police Station over the attack on the doctors at DMCH.
Amir Hossain, an office assistant of the hospital, filed the cases accusing four named, including BUBT teacher and three students, and 50 unnamed people.
According to the case statement, Shahriar Arnab, a teacher of the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), has been named as the prime accused. The other named accused are -- Paljay, Sahab Turza, and Saimi Naz Shayan., who identified them as BUBT student.
Earlier, on Friday night, Ahsanul Islam Dipto, 24, a civil engineering student at the BUBT, was severely injured in a motorcycle accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh Road in the Cantonment area.
Passersby brought him to DMCH, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
