Road mishaps claim seven lives in five districts

Seven people including a woman have been killed and at least 11 others injured in separate road accidents in five districts - Pabna, Barishal, Magura, Rajbari and Rajshahi, in three days.  
SANTHIA, PABNA: An elderly man was killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Santhia Upazila of the district on Friday noon.
The accident took place in Patbari-Bhitapara area on the Bogura-Nagarbari highway of the upazila at around 12 pm.
The deceased was identified as Babul Shaha, 65, a resident of Santhia Municipality.
It was known that a Nagarbari-bound truck collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction in Patbari-Bhitapara area on the Bogura-Nagarbari highway at noon, which left CNG passenger Babul dead on the spot and other five passengers injured.
On information, police recovered the body of the deceased and took it to Madhabpur Police Outpost.
Locals then rescued the injured were rescued and taken to different hospitals for treatment.
However, the both vehicles have been seized.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhabpur Police Outpost Joynal Abedin Sardar confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard. 
BARISHAL: A man was killed and six others were injured in a road accident in Mehendiganj Upazila of the district on Friday.
The accident took place in Patarhaat Steemarghat area of the upazila at around 11 am.
The deceased was identified as Hasan Hawlader, a resident of Charmitua Village under Alimabad Union in the upazila.
Police and local sources said that the accident occurred when a speedy three-wheeler (nosimon) and a battery-operated easy-bike collided head-on in Patarhaat Steemarghat area, which left Hasan dead on the spot and six other passengers critically injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased.
The injured were rescued and admitted to different hospitals.  
However, the law enforcers have seized both the vehicles and arrested the three-wheeler's driver Md Ripon from the scene.
Mehendiganj Police Station (PS) OC (Investigation) Md Helal Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this connection.
MAGURA: A man was killed after being knocked down by a motorcycle in district town on Friday morning.
The accident took place in Bhayna area of the town at around 10 am.
The deceased was identified as Sikandar Ali, 42, son of Muslim Ali, a resident of Bhitasair area in the town.
Quoting locals, Magura Sadar PS OC Sheikh Mehedi Rasel said that the accident occurred at around 10 am when a young man riding on a motorcycle hit Sikandar Ali from behind in front of textile mill on the Magura-Jashore road in Bhayna area, which left him seriously injured.
Locals then rescued him and took to Magura General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. 
Later on, Sikandar Ali succumbed to his injuries on the way to Faridpur.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, a case was filed with Magura Sadar PS and legal action would be taken in connection with the accident, the police officer added.
GOALANDA, RAJBARI: A teenage boy was killed after a bus hit a three-wheeler (locally known as Mahendra) in Goalanda Upazila of the district on Thursday noon. 
The accident took place at around 12 pm in front of Bangladesh Hatchery on the Doulatdia-Khulna highway of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Sizan Sheikh, 16, son of Mofiz Sheikh, a resident of Zanuki Roy Para area under Uzanchar Union in the upazila.
It was known that a bus of 'JR Paribahan' coming from Kushtia hit the three-wheeler in the area, leaving its passenger Sizan critically injured.
Fire Service personnel then rescued him and took to Goalanda Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Sizan dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as per their request.
However, the law enforcers have seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Ahladi Pur Highway PS OC Abdul Halim confirmed the incident.
RAJSHAHI: Three people including a woman were killed in two separate road accidents in Godagari Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Morjina Khatun, 50, daughter of Mujibur Rahman of Nazirpur Village in the upazila, Monirul Islam, 50, son of Tajimul Islam of Srimantpur area under Godagari Municipality, and Milon Ali, 38, a resident of Bujrukpara area.
Quoting locals, Godagari PS OC Ataur Rahman said Marzina Khatun was killed on the spot when a pickup van knocked her down from behind while she was walking beside a road at around 5:30 am.
Meanwhile, auto-rickshaw driver Monirul Islam and his passenger Milon Ali were also killed on the spot when a passenger bus hit their auto-rickshaw at the Fire Service intersection of Godagari Upazila Sadar at around 8:30 am.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies of the trio.
However, the law enforcers detained the bus driver in connection with the accident.
Two separate cases were filed with Godagari PS in these regards, the OC added.
