Police have recovered the body of a college student, who went missing on Tuesday (August 28) while bathing in a river.
The body was found in the Ram Kharua area near Bagha Bari river port at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sohaib Sheikh, son of Babu Sheikh and an HSC candidate for 2024, a resident of Ullapara upazila in the district.
Earlier, he had gone missing at Rautara Switch Gate in the upazila.
Sabuz Rana, officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station, said, "During the flood season, people usually visit the Rautara Switch Gate area. Last Wednesday, Sohaib and his four friends came to visit the area by boat. They all went into the water to bathe, and at one point, Sohaib drowned. Hearing his friends' screams, locals rushed to help and began a search, but they could not find him. Divers from Rajshahi later conducted a rescue operation but were also unsuccessful.On Sunday afternoon, locals spotted his body and informed the police."
On information, police recovered the body from the scene, the OC added.
