The central bank is going to abolish the requirement of diploma degree for promotion of junior bank officers to the post of senior officer. However, the diploma degree will be required for the promotion from the post of Additional General Managers to subsequent level up to the post of the Managing Director.
Such a decision is being taken in view of the letter sent by the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh (IBB) to the central bank.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) sources said, IBB President and Governor of Bangladesh Bank Ahsan H Mansoor in the latest governing council meeting of the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh voted in favor of canceling the banking diploma.
Earlier, in February 2023, Bangladesh Bank made banking diploma pass mandatory for bank officials to be promoted to senior officers and above. Banking diploma has been made mandatory to increase skills, qualifications and capabilities of officers. However, this requirement was relaxed the following year.
In a notification at that time, Bangladesh Bank said, 'Senior or high-ranking officials who have been appointed or promoted before making the banking diploma mandatory, will not need a diploma. However, a diploma will be required for promotion to any subsequent level.
