A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Tuesday seeking its directive on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate into the allegation against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and niece Tulip Siddiq of embezzling Tk 500 crore from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant through Malaysian banks.

Barrister Sahedul Azam filed the petition with the related branch of the HC on behalf of his client Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Bobby Hajjaj.

Later Azam told reporters that he would move the petition before the HC after its reopening following upcoming annual vacation. Both the Appellate and HC Divisions of the Supreme Court will go on an annual vacation on September 6 and will reopen on October 20. The writ petition challenges the legality of the ACC's failure to investigate alleged corruption by Sheikh Hasina and her family members in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. The ACC Chairman and other relevant parties have been made respondents in the petition.

Fourteen people including secretaries of power, energy and mineral resources ministry, science and technology ministry, home ministry, ACC chairman, Sheikh Hasina, Joy, Tulip and Tarique Ahmed Siddique have been made respondents in the writ petition.

According to a report published by Global Defence Corp on August 17, Bangladesh's ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and niece Tulip Siddiq allegedly embezzled more than Tk 500 crore from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
