Bangladesh national football team began the first of the two-match FIFA international friendly series with a 1-0 win over Bhutan on Thursday at the Changlimithang Football Stadium in Bhutanese capital Thimphu.

Javier Fernandez Cabrera, the head coach of Bangladesh football said earlier on Wednesday that they wanted to win both the matches and his disciples won the first one on Thursday.

The host were very close to open the net in the 55th second of the match as midfielder Tshering Karma Shedrup took a long cross and striker Dilip Mongar tried to send the ball into the post but failed as Bangladesh defenders responded quickly.

Bangladesh took five minutes to go ahead. After an effort of a fellow right-winger was intercepted by the Bhutanese custodian Tshering Dhendup, Bangladesh ace striker Shekh Morsalin placed the ball home with a soft touch.

Bangladesh was near to double the lead in the added time of the first half as striker Rakib Hossain about to convert a cross from a compatriot into the ball but he was dangerously tackled down by Bhutan defender Sherub Dorji near the small box. The Bangladeshi striker was later replaced by Sahariar Emon for the injury.

The second half saw some opportunities for both sides yet none could utilise and Bangladesh left the ground with a win.
