FARIDPUR, Sept 5: At least 11 people including a woman were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League (AL) over establishing supremacy in Saltha Upazila of the district on Monday.

The clash took place at Paschimpara of Mazhardia Village under Mazhardia Union in the upazila at around 8:30 am.
During the clash, the house of an upazila AL leader was attacked, and extensively vandalised and looted. On information, army and police went there and brought the situation under control.

The injured have been admitted to hospital.

Local sources said there was a dispute between the vice-presidents of Saltha Upazila AL Habibur Rahman alias Hamid Matubbar and Shahiduzzaman alias Shahid of Mazhardia Village over establishing supremacy in the area. Following this, the supporters of both sides clashed at times.

As a sequel to it, an argument took place between the supporters of both groups on Monday morning. Then 50 to 60 people led by Kabir Molla, member of Ward No. 2 of Mazhardia Union and supporter of AL leader Shahiduzzaman, attacked and looted the house of AL leader Habibur Rahman and his son Faruk Matubbar, former vice-president of Upazila Swecchhasebak League, with indigenous weapons. At that time, a clash broke out between the two sides. At least 11 people were injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Saltha Police Station Mohammad Faizur Rahman confirmed the incident.
