Nine minors drown in six districts

Nine minor children drowned in separate incidents in six districts - Panchagarh, Natore, Kishoreganj, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Bhola, in three days.

PANCHAGARH: A minor boy drowned in a pond in Tentulia Upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Chotchutia Village under the upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Tanvir Hossain, 10, son of Abul Kashem of the area.

Quoting locals, police said Tanvir went missing when he along with his friends was taking bathe in the pond.

After an extensive search, he was rescued from the pond in an unconscious state.

Family members then rushed him to Tentulia Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

NATORE: A minor child drowned in a ditch in Singra Upazila of the district on Wednesday.

Deceased Sabbir Hossain, 9, was the son of Abdul Alim of Notunpara Village under Lalore Union in the upazila.

The deceased's family members said that the child slipped into the ditch while he was playing on its bank.

Later on, he was rescued and taken to Singra Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the boy dead.

KISHOREGANJ: Two minor girls drowned in a canal in Mithamoin Upazila of the district on Monday noon.

The deceased were identified as Tasmia Ahmed Nishat, 5, daughter of Jubair Ahmmad and Rafia Tanha, 4, daughter of Mohibur Rahman of Shahabnagar Purbapara Village in the upazila.

Local sources said, they were playing near the house; once they went to bathe in a canal near the house, they drowned in the canal.

 When Nishat's body firstly floated in the canal, it came to the attention of the locals. 

After recovering Nishat's body, body of Rafia Tanha was also found.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithamoin Police Station (PS) Mohammad Ahsan Habib confirmed the news.

FULBARI, KURIGRAM: Two siblings drowned in a pond in Fulbari Upazila of the district on Monday.

The accident took place in Sujaner Kuti Village at Bhangamor Union in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Ria Moni, 10, and her brother Sifat Hossain, 5, children of Rabiul Islam of that village.

According to locals, at about 5:30 pm on Monday, Sifat Hossain and her sister Ria Moni went to play on the bank of the pond next to their house. Once, Sifat fell into the pond and drowned in deep water. 

Seeing the younger brother drowning in the water, Ria Moni jumped into the pond to save her brother. When the two hugged each other, both of them drowned in the water of the pond.

Later on, their family members recovered the bodies from the pond.

Fulbari PS OC Nawabur Rahman confirmed the news.

LALMONIRHAT:  A child drowned in a pond in the district's Hatibandha Upazila on Monday afternoon.

Deceased was identified as Alif Islam, 5, son of Mintu Mia, a resident of Sindurna Char in the upazila.

Locals said, Alif and his parents went to cut grass in the Teesta River char by a boat. At that time, Alif fell into the water while playing on the bank of the river.

Later on, his body was recovered from the river.

LALMOHAN, BHOLA: Two minor girls drowned in a pond in Lalmohan Upazila of the district on Monday.

The incident took place in Ward No. 8 Syedabad area under Lord Harding Union of the upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Khadiza Begum, 8, daughter of Md Razzak, and Rabeya, 5, daughter of Md Maksud, residents of the area. They were cousin sisters in relation.

It was known that Khadiza and Rabeya were playing on their house yard in the morning. At one stage, the sisters fell in a pond next to the house while their family members were unaware of it. 

Later on, the family members rescued them from the pond and took to Lord Harding Union Health Centre, where the on-duty doctor declared the duo dead.

Lalmohan PS OC (Investigation) Md Enayet Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that the deceased children were buried with the permission of the authorities concerned.
