Bangladesh has secured a gold medal at prestigious International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2024 in Egypt for the first time in history.
Thanks to Debojoti Das Soumya, a 12th grader from Jalalabad Cantonment College in Sylhet, for his outstanding performance in the IOI-2024.
Alongside Soumya's gold, fellow Bangladeshi participants Jarif Rahman and Akib Azmain Turja also achieved a bronze medal each in the competition. This year's achievement brings Bangladesh's total IOI medal count to 31, including 24 bronze, 6 silver, and now 1 gold.
Earlier, on 2022, Soumya won a bronze medal and a silver medal in 2023 at the competetion.
The IOI, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious computer science competitions for high school students, attracts over 300 participants from around the world. It challenges young minds in areas such as algorithm design, problem-solving, and coding. Bangladesh has been competing in the event since 2005, steadily improving its performance on the world stage.
