Class suspended in 24 Rangamati schools

RANGAMATI, Sept 8: Class-taking has been suspended in 24 primary schools in the district as these are used as flood shelter centres.

These schools are in four upazilas of the district. 

A concern was created among students, guardians and teachers of these schools.
According to sources at the District Primary Education office, the class-taking was suspended in these schools as these were inundated by heavy rain and being used as flood shelter centres.

Of these schools, two ones in Baghaichari Upazila, 20 in Longdu, and one each in Jurachhari and Borkol upazilas. 

According to sources at Longdu Upazila Education office, of the 20 schools, 13 ones are used as shelter centres and three ones are flooded; and four ones were closed for submerged roads.

Afsana Sharmin, a class four student of Jharnatila Government Primary School, said, "Rain submerges our school road; and, now flood water has entered; so, our classes were suspended."

Head Teacher of Mohammadpur Government Primary School Md Kamal Hossain said, "Non-stop raining submerged school ground and water entered class rooms. Students can't come. We all including guardians are in concern."

Longdu Upazila Education Officer MK Imam Uddin confirmed closure of these schools.

But damages of the schools were not estimated yet, he added. 

Rangamati District Primary Education Officer Rishikesh Sheel said, as the schools are still used as flood shelter centres; and students can't come to schools.

The damages could not be estimated yet, and it will take time, he added.
