A court in Rangpur on Tuesday placed two police personnel, who have been arrested in a case filed over the death of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed during the recent Quota Reform Movement, on a four-day remand.

Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 Judge Asaduzzaman placed them on remand after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) pleaded to place the accused on a five-day remand for questioning.

Superintendent of PBI police Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter.

The two police personnel are Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station's ASI Amir Ali and constable Sujan Chandra Roy.
Earlier in the morning, ASI Md Amir Ali and constable Sujan Chandra Roy were produced before the court amid tight security measures.

On Monday, the two police personnel were arrested and handed over to the PBI for legal steps.

Ramjan Ali, elder brother of Abu Sayeed, filed the murder case with the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court at Tajhat in Rangpur on August 18 accusing 17 named and 30-35 unidentified people.

Abu Sayeed, a student of the 12th batch of the English department at BRUR, was killed in police firing in front of his university campus in Rangpur on July 16 last during the Quota Reform Movement.

He was a key coordinator of the movement.
