Two children drown in Cumilla floodwater

Two children drowned in the floodwater at Laksam upazila in Cumilla district on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at Aushpara area under Mudafarnogor North union in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Shahana Akter, 12, daughter of Hannan Munsi from Raghurampur area in Chandpur's Shaharasti upazila, and Aris, 5, son of Emran Hossain, from Laxmipur's Barura upazila.

Shahana's grandfather Rashed Bhuiyan said they along with the victim two and family members went to a boat trip in the flood-hit area under the upazila. On the way, when they reached at Bhuiyan Bari area, the boat capsized and the duo drowned there.

Later, locals discovered them floating and recovered the bodies.

Laksam Police Station inspector Tomas Barua confirmed that they have heard the news, adding that efforts are underway to know the details.
