A Dhaka court has placed former prime minister's energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on a four-day remand for questioning in a case involving murder of a person at Badda during the recent anti-government movement.
Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Ali Haider's court placed him on remand on Wednesday.
Earlier, showing arrested in one Sumon Sikder murder case with Badda Police Station in the capital, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury was produced before the court. Badda police pleaded to the court to place him on a 10-day remand.
In their remand prayer, Badda police said information about the involvement of accused Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury was found in Badda's Sumon Sikder murder case. It is necessary to question accused Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury in remand about the involvement of fugitive accused of the case.
On the other hand, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury's lawyers pleaded to the court to grant their client bail rejecting the remand plea of Badda police.
After hearing both sides, the court passed an order placing Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on a four-day remand.
On Tuesday night, police arrested Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury from Gulshan in the capital.
