T-Aman paddy cultivation hampered in Barishal

BARISHAL, Sept 11: Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) cultivation has been seriously  hampered in the Barishal agriculture zone due to strong impact of the full moon tide in Bengali month Bhadra.

So far only 40 per cent sapling plantation of T-Aman has been completed in the agri-zone against the fixed target of about nine lakh hectares of T-Aman to achieve about 24 lakh metric tons (MT) of rice.

Due to the full moon impact, about 30 per cent seedbeds and T-Aman fields were submerged because of tidal surge.
Now farmers are in tension with their T-Aman cultivation.

At present, the monsoon weather is active in the Bay of Bengal.

In the last month, 771 millimetre rainfall was recorded against normal 478 millimetre in Barishal.

This month 285-350 millimetre rainfall has been forecasted. But farmers are in fear of exceeding that level of rain due to forthcoming off-moon tide.

They are uncertain about harvesting about 24 lakh MT rice.
