Three senior officers of Bangladesh Army, including former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Md Saiful Alam, have been sent into forced retirement while another officer has been terminated.
According to the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR), the Ministry of Defence issued two separate orders to the
effect on Tuesday (September 10).
The
action against the officers has been taken following Section-16 under
the Army Act. The forced retirements will be effective within 15 days
since the orders were issued, the notice added.
Two other officers, who were sent into force retirement, are -- Lieutenant General Ahammad Tabrez Shams Chowdhury and Major General Hamidul Haque.
Besides, Army Training and Doctrine Command GOC at the Momenshahi Cantonment Lieutenant General Md Mujibur Rahman has been terminated. He was, at one time, the director general of the Special Security Force that provided security to Hasina.
Mujibur had served as quartermaster at Army Headquarters. He also led ‘Operation Thunderblast’ during the Holey Artisan attack and later served as additional director general with Border Guard Bangladesh and the Rapid Action Battalion.
Saiful received commission in the army as a cadet of the 14th BMA Long Course from Bangladesh Military Academy. He served as an area commander for the 11th Infantry Division of Bogura Cantonment. Saiful was appointed as the DG of DGFI on February 24, 2020.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led Awami Leaguer government, Saiful was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is to be mentioned here that the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) had directed the banks to freeze the accounts of Saiful Alam, his wife, and children on September 3 and asked transaction statements to BFIU within five working days.
