A man was hacked to death by his son at Haziganj upazila in Chandpur district on Wednesday night over a family dispute.

The incident happened sometime on Wednesday night at Toragor village, Ward No. 8, Haziganj municipality in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Aktar Hossain, 58, a resident of the area.

The accused is Shakib Hossain, 25, son of the deceased.

Taslima Begum, the deceased's wife, said, " There was an altercation between the father and the son on Wednesday evening. Later that night, the son hacked his father with a machete in his room. Hearing screams, family members rushed to the room when they saw Shakib coming out from the room."

Aktar Hossain was rescued and taken to Hazigang Upazila Healt Complex but succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Cumilla for better treatment, said Dr. Md Golam Mawla Noim, health and family planning officer of the health complex.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sada Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Md Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Haziganj Police Station.

"Actions will be taken according to the law. The murder might have been due to a family dispute," the OC added
