Former member of parliament from Rauzan (Chittagong-6) constituency Fazle Karim Chowdhury was trying to flee to India claiming to avail medical treatment there.
Two persons -- Md Hannan Molla, 45, and Md Naim Chowdhury, 22 -- assisted him to go to India illegally.
Detained Naim is an active member of a human trafficking syndicate.
However, their attempt was foiled by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The BGB sources said former MP Fazle Karim himself divulged the information under questioning by the BGB after his detention.
Fazle Karim was detained from Abdullahpur border in Gazirbazar of Akhaura in Brahmanbaria district on Thursday (September 12).
On Thursday morning, Md Shariful Islam, public relation officer (PRO) at the BGB Headquarters in Dhaka, said Fazle Karim was detained from Abdullahpur border in Gazirbazar of Akhaura in Brahmanbaria district while he was fleeing to India illegally.
Besides, two more people -- former member of Noorpur village under Akhaura upazila Md Hannan Molla and human trafficker Md Naim Chowdhury -- were detained.
During his arrest, BGB seized a Bangladeshi red passport, cash Tk 37,500, two mobile phones (one iPhone and one Realme), two NIDs (smart and old ones), photos, medicines and other documents.
