The blood-stained body of an elderly woman was recovered from her house at Rupsha upazila in Khulna on Friday morning.

The dead was Gulfara Nahar, 65, wife of the late Shahidul Islam. She had been living alone in her house in Naihati village. Her son, Raihan, currently works in Dhaka as an NBR inspector, said locals.
In the morning, housemaid Shahinur Begum arrived and called out to her. However, when she found the gate open and no sound coming from inside, she became suspicious. She called neighbours, and when they entered the house, they found Nahar’s body lying on the floor.

Rupsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Haque confirmed it.

Last night, criminals broke into the house through a window, tied the victim’s hands and feet, and struck her on the head. She died from excessive bleeding during the attack. The criminals opened the cupboard in the house and looted cash, gold jewellery, and other valuables. However, it is not yet known exactly how much money and what items were taken, the OC said.

The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy. At the time of writing, preparations for filing a case with the police station were ongoing.
