Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested an alleged smuggler along with 11 gold bars from Satkhira's Bhomra Lakshidari border area on Thursday.
The arrested is Zakir Hossain, 31, from Lakshidari village in Bhomra union.
BGB-33 captain Ashraful Haque said acting on tip-off, a team of the force conducted a drive in the area on Thursday night and arrested Zakir red-handed along with 11 gold bars while he was trying to smuggle those into India.
He said that 11 pieces of gold bars were recovered wrapped in a towel around the arrested man's waist, weighing around 1.5 kg.
The estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk 1,60,70,528.
A case has been filed with Satkhira Sadar Police Station and the process of depositing the gold bars at District Treasury Office is under process, added the BGB official.
